Updated Guardians of the Galaxy Infinity Gem Orb

So the first one I made was closer to the same size, but it was a speedy project that isn't close enough to "movie accurate" for me...not that this one is, but it's carved into the foam orb as opposed to a hot-glue doodle design on top that was painted to look recessed.

These pieces were already in halves from Michaels so I didn't have to saw it perfectly in half. First, I carved the whole out in the middle and glued in the magnets. Next, I drew the symmetrical pattern on with a pen then got to carving it with an x-acto knife. First coat of paint was just black acrylic, second coat was drybrushed-on silver spray paint. The interior silver and gold are also brushed on spray paint, and the blue is fabric puff-paint.

Wish it would light up or have more weight to it, but I am really pleased with the look when it's up on a shelf. Plus, actually having a purple gem inside makes it worth the hand-cramping-stress of carving it up =)
