Custom Rey Figure

So, as much as i love the official Hot Toys brand, it pains my soul that i can't afford every figure that i want that they sell. I'm no stranger to customizing a body with ready-made sixth scale clothing, but i've never made clothes from scratch. Well, now that i have a sewing machine, i've become a bit more adventurous.

I saw the promo pix for the new Rey Force Awakens figure that Hot Toys is releasing, and couldn't get over how badass she looked with her goggles and head-wrap on. Especially with the staff, it reminded me of Leia's Boushh disguise from Return of the Jedi (which may be my top outfit of choice from the orig trig). I am REALLY trying to stop spendin uncontrollably, so i had to come up with a new idea. Since Daisy Riddly is so skinny, a barbie's proportions wouldn't be too far off, plus the height would be close to my other 1/6 scale figures. Had to find one eith good posable joints and dark hair long enough for me to put into her tri-bun style. Hence, i ordered a Katniss Movkingjay barbie for $20 (as opposed to Sideshow Toy's $290 for the Rey that comes with a bb-8). I had enough scrap fabric around the house and am really good at turning random items into other things. Heck, her staff is made out of folded ribbon, athletic tape, and a black clothes hanger with hot glue ridges. Actually sewed the pants and shirt on the machine to keep the seaming clean. Pretty impressed with the before and afters, especially once i got the whole look slightly weathered like it is in the film.
