Belle Costume Apron for My Niece

I finally got a Singer sewing machine! Absolutely love it and it's going to make so many things a lot quicker and the seams will be stronger (as opposed to hand stitching with a single thread).

For my first project, I wanted to have something to test out different stitches and stick to simple shapes, no fancy tailoring or pleats. It does have some pleats, but they are in no way perfect haha. The inspiration came from our local flea market where my sister and I saw some Disney princess aprons. My niece, who is almost 2, already loves Mickey and Minnie, so it is safe to say that she will grow up loving the Disney princesses. Casey and I talked about how simple they looked and how they are the perfect thing for every-day little costumes that kids love. I had a Pocahontas dress that I wore about every day for a year; it was comfortable and helped me pretend I was her running around our yard, so I know how important costumes can be to kids. I also know how expensive it can be to buy a pre-made princess dress that is covered in glitter and usually not made out of durable fabric. So, in Michaels, I saw some of their smaller rolls of fabric and the pale yellow was an easy choice. Aubrey only has a couple small princess toys, but if she is like her mom, she will know who Belle is! After that, I walked a few aisles over and picked up some glittery gold ribbon. (Looking back, I wish I had added some white ruffled fabric beneath the pick-ups since her dress has them.)

The shapes are fairly simple; just a basic apron with extra fabric added on the top for the neckline and the bottom draping bustles. The ribbon is used for the ties and trim pieces. She looks adorable in it, right?!?
